Samsung to Remove Its Own Messaging App; Google Messages to Become the 'Default'

South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced the gradual phase-out of its long-standing "Samsung Messages" app on Galaxy smartphones. As part of a policy to reduce duplicate apps and provide a unified messaging experience, Samsung is prioritizing Google Messages.

The company has already initiated this change starting with new models, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. While existing users can still use the app for a while, Samsung aims to fully replace it with Google Messages by 2026.

Samsung is urging users to switch to the official Google Messages app and has begun necessary preparations. Galaxy users will receive in-app notifications regarding this change, which will guide them on how to easily migrate their chat history to Google Messages.

• Gemini AI Integration: Users can utilize Google's AI, Gemini, to draft replies or create images and stickers via simple text commands.
• Multi-device Connectivity: Messages can be synced across phones, tablets, and computers using a single Google ID.

How to Switch to Google Messages

1.  Open the Google Messages app on your phone. (Download it from the Play Store if you don't have it.)

2.  Upon opening, a prompt will appear to make it your default app; click 'Set as default'.

3.  Select Google Messages (the blue icon on a white background) from the list.
