E-SIM has been the talk of the town lately. The use of e-SIM has

already started in some countries of the world. Apple is also preparing to produce an iPhone targeting e-SIM.

Nepal Telecom has also announced to launch e-SIM card in Nepal. Instead of the chip card made of plastic currently available in the market, the company is preparing to provide e-SIM that can be embedded in mobile devices and various digital devices. For this, the telecom has fixed the budget with a plan to include 'e-SIM platform' in the annual program of the current fiscal year 2078/79. The company is preparing to import a total of 8 million SIMs including e-SIM in the current fiscal year. The company plans to bring upto one and a half lakh e-SIMs this year. What is e-SIM?

In general, the digital form of the physical SIM we are using is called e-SIM. It is embedded in your phone and you do not need any SIM slot. You don't have to go to get a SIM card or keep it on your mobile to use it. It is based on a small chip used in mobile, which connects the phone to the respective mobile network based on the user's ID. The chip will already be installed on the phone, which the user must activate after purchasing the phone.

How to use e-SIM?

Currently various mobile companies are producing products that can be used for e-SIM. For this you also need to use a device that can use e-SIM. The e-SIM profile provided by Telecom companies like Nepal Telecom, Ncell have to be installed on device, or you can also purchase e-SIM data plan from the service provider. This means that you can use the e-SIM data of two companies at the same time as you used two SIMs at the same time. Also, if you are travelling somewhere, you can use your embedded SIM with another mobile company's e-SIM data.
